10 Exciting Things to Do in Northern Ireland: September 9–15

  1. The Amgen Irish Open 2024, Royal County Down Golf Club, County Down, 11 – 15 September. The 2024 Amgen Irish Open will take place at Royal County Down Golf Club, in Newcastle, Northern Ireland. World-class golf, live music, and the best fans in the world are all to be enjoyed at this unmissable tournament.   2. European Heritage Open Days, various locations across Northern Ireland, 14 – 15 September. As part of Northern Ireland’s contribution to the European Heritage Days, this September more than 260 of Northern Ireland’s historic buildings and monuments, landmarks and hidden gems will open offering free entry with many activities for you to enjoy. There is a packed programme of events and activities ranging from guided tours and walks to talks and lectures, from living history re-enactors to community fun days and festivals, from musical events to screenings to brand new places to visit, there is something for everyone.
  3. Millbank Farm – Flower Farm and Maize Maze, Whiterock Bay, County Down, weekends in September, check website and social media for open dates and times. A beautiful experience not to be missed this month. Pick your own flowers, navigate the Maize Maze and enjoy the views of Whiterock Bay, Strangford Lough. Pop on a pair of wellies and make your way to the farm where they’ll arm you with a pair of secateurs and a container before you head out into the flower fields. Picnics and dogs on leads are welcome, plus a coffee stand. 
  4. Taste Autumn in Ards & North Down, various locations, County Down, 5 – 12 September. Taste Autumn is set to showcase the very best of Ards and North Down’s food and drink through a packed programme of events and experiences. Savour seasonal tide and turf produce and some of the borough’s finest food and drink which offers something for all palates. 
  5. Boatyard Distillery Tour, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, visit website for open times and dates. Visit the banks of Lough Erne to see how Boatyard Distillery produces the finest spirits using the highest quality botanicals and ingredients. Come and meet the team, their stills and discover the secret behind the famous ‘Érainn’ Copper still. Try some of their spirits neat to taste their full flavour and be guided through different serves and cocktails.
  6. Beer and Cheese at Bullhouse East, Belfast, 10 September. Join Bullhouse East for an intimate beer and cheese pairing with a curated selection of craft beer. These intimate tastings are limited to 25 tickets per tasting and include a guided talk on five different beers paired with five excellent local cheeses from Indie Fude. The events kick off sharply at 7.30pm and they ask you to be there for 7pm.
  7. The Derry Girls Experience, Derry~Londonderry, visit website for open times and dates. Visit the home of Derry Girls and discover where it all began. See original memorabilia from the hit show, like Erin’s diary, Aunt Sarah’s famous pyjamas and Ma Mary’s Woolworths sweater, not to mention the infamous Spice Girls costumes. Step into the set of the Quinn’s household and feel like one of the family. A must-see for fans of the show!
  8. Our Big Weekend at Darragh Park, Castlederg, County Tyrone, 13 – 15 September. Don’t miss this packed programme. Enjoy a Talent Show with cash prizes, Fight Night, Disco, and live music from Lavengro, One For The Road and more. There will be a range of fun filled games and tasty treats including Burgers, Hotdogs, South African Braai and more. 
  9. Experience the Calver Telescope, Armagh, County Armagh, 14 September. The Armagh Observatory and Planetarium will be opening its largest telescope dome to the public. They have been conducting astronomical research for over 200 years and are excited to show off some of their amazing telescopes. Discover the difference between historic and modern telescopes during this unique event.
  10. Rock of Ages at the The Market Place Theatre and Arts Centre, Armagh, County Armagh, 11 – 14 September. Rock of Ages is a big, brash, energetic tribute to classic rock, to over-the-top ballads and fierce guitar, to the gritty glamour and rough energy of the Sunset Strip. This jukebox musical features ‘80s hits such as “We Built this City”, “I Wanna Rock” and more.
