Belfast Author Launches Daring New Book Soineanta Maskirovka

By Jonathan Traynor

Belfast writer has launched his latest work, Soineanta Maskirovka in a book that both intrigues and entertains.

Evolving out of a hidden desire to create, Christopher Owens’ work exists between conscience and the sub conscience.

“After all, the impending apocalypse needs someone to document it,” he said.

Much like his previous works A Vortex of Securocrats and “dethrone god” Soineanta Maskirovka (translated as Innocent Pretender) combines Owens’ unique writing with themes of existentialism, post-capitalist thinking and human storytelling,

Described as “an immediate, striking tale through a life that pulls at the heart strings as much as it entertains,” Soineanta Maskirovka captures the existential angst faced by the forcibly retired like never before.

“Writing this book allowed me to explore a normal character and the mundanity of life after retirement,” explained Owens.

“I wanted readers to read about someone in a position we all hope to be in one day, but I also want to see them react to the various twists and turns that the narrative throws up along the way.”

Set in Belfast, Soineanta Maskirovka is packed with humour, intrigue and poignancy. It tells the story of Gilbert Hood. Freshly retired, he fills his days by reminiscing about the past. But what happens whenever deeply held beliefs turn out to be contested.

And why is there a desecrated skull in the nearby abandoned hospital?

The book will be available for purchase in paperback and eBook from 28th February and will be available to order through Amazon
