Organisers of Amgen Irish Open 2024 Advise Fans to Tee Off Tournament with Public Transport

The Amgen Irish Open will return to Northern Ireland in 2024 with Royal County Down Golf Club hosting this year’s event from 11-15th September with organisers encouraging supporters to utilise public transport.

Translink has worked with partner organisations including the DP World Tour, Tourism NI, Newry, Mourne & Down Council, PSNI and the Department for Infrastructure to offer a range of services to devise a suitable transport plan for this high-profile event and bring thousands of additional visitors to the stunning landscapes of County Down.

The public transport operator for Northern Ireland has also launched a dedicated micro-site for people seeking more details on the tournament, the local area and how to get there which can be accessed at: https://www.translink.co.uk/irishopen

Golf fans are being encouraged to plan their travel in advance and leave extra time for their journeys.

This year, the competition is set to return to Royal County Down Golf Club  for the 5th time in the club’s history following a successful 2015 event.

The PRO-AM event will be taking place on Wednesday 11th September with tournament days taking place Thursday 12th – Sunday 15th September.

Arthur Hamilton, Translink’s Southern Area Manager, Bus Services, said: “The Amgen Irish Open 2024 will be a world-class sports event putting Northern Ireland centre-stage as a top visitor destination.

“We want to ensure everyone enjoys hassle-free journeys to Newcastle and reduce traffic congestion in the area.

“We are delighted to support this event and have lined up with a number of initiatives to help fans attend including free park and ride and bus shuttle services to and from the event and a special coach service. Public transport will really help you enjoy your day and allow you to sit back and relax.”

Paul Gillmon, Championship Director of the Amgen Irish Open, said: “We hope all spectators enjoy a world-class experience at Royal County Down and the Amgen Irish Open and would urge them to take advantage of the free Park and Ride shuttles and special coach service when travelling to the event.

“We must thank Translink and all of our event partners for their support in the creation of our transport plan and we look forward welcoming spectators to Royal County Down throughout the tournament week.”
