Staff at the Millennium Forum were in celebration today following their success at the recent North West Business Awards. The North West’s leading cultural venue took home the biggest prize of the evening, the coveted ‘Brilliance In Business Award’ in recognition of its significant contribution to the local economy, its award winning education events and its affordable programme of year-long events. The theatre’s team also took first prize in the ‘Creative Marketer’ award at the glittering ceremony which was held in the City Hotel and attended by a host of the city’s key businesses.
Martin Bradley, Chair of the Derry Theatre Trust, is delighted with the awards:
“This is an incredible recognition for the Forum; it’s great to get recognised for all the work we do, not just on stage, but also for the many outreach and community programmes that we run throughout the year. And the fact that our significant economic impact that we bring to the city and region is recognised is also fantastic, so we thank everyone at the City Centre Initiative, the Londonderry Chamber and all who made the decision to award us this amazing accolade.”
David McLaughlin, Chief Executive of the Millennium Forum, is thrilled with the news. He said:
“Our success at this year’s awards is fantastic news and is testament to the continuing dedication and hard work from all our staff and the fabulous customer support we have received over the last number of years. Our team works incredibly hard to create a theatre that the people of the city and beyond can be proud of, and the recognition we’ve received with these awards clearly demonstrate our success in achieving this.”
He added:
“To receive the Brilliance In Business Award is amazing for us. As we continue to navigate in this currently challenging economic climate approaching our 25th anniversary it is particularly significant that the Forum is recognised as a key factor in the economic success of the city as well as for all the work we do creatively and onstage; this reinforces our commitment to provide a theatre that is important to people’s lives in not only providing a place of entertainment annually for some 320,000 plus patrons but to also enhance the local economy and city centre vibrancy that everyone can enjoy and benefit from.
None of this would be possible without the support of Derry/Strabane District Council and the Arts Council NI along with our many local sponsors/partners who drive us to improve and succeed for everyone in the North West.”
Anna Doherty, Chief Executive of the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce, also commented:
“We were delighted to award the Millennium Forum with the Brilliance In Business Award, the highest accolade of the night which represents outstanding contribution. The award represents all that is positive about the work that goes on every day in our region. The Forum is a venue that is based in the heart of the city and is very dear to the people; it impacts thousands with its year-round, high quality, affordable entertainment and as well as providing inclusive educational programmes in the North West, it contributes substantially to the economy of the North West. We congratulate all the team at the Forum for this well deserved accolade.”
The North West Business Awards in partnership with City Centre Initiative and Londonderry Chamber, took place at the City Hotel on Friday 9th June. This highly anticipated annual event recognises and celebrates the remarkable achievements of businesses and entrepreneurs in the North West.
