Translink has launched a significant update to its mLink mobile ticketing app and is calling on both current users and new passengers to download the new version today!
With a striking new look, the new version will replace the current app. This move is a further step in the organisation’s drive towards a greener, digital-led future ticketing strategy set to enhance the overall customer experience through unlocking great value fares.
William McGookin, Translink Head of Ticketing explained, “With the growth in smartphones and the post-Covid demand for more ‘contactless’ ticketing, there has been a surge in the number of passengers using mLink over recent years. This is due to all of the benefits of mLink app including enhanced customer confidence, ease of use and convenience of purchasing your ticket ’on the move’.
“Launched 10 years ago, we have seen a growth of 24% of customers using mLink compared to last year which means that over 20% of all fare-paying passenger journeys are now made on mLink – that’s around 10million passenger journeys every year. With this popularity projected to grow further given the increasing demand for mobile apps and ‘smart tickets’ we have taken the opportunity to review and enhance the current product making it even more efficient and easier to use. Offering good value fares alongside secure payment options to give peace of mind, it also has the added environmental benefit of going paperless.
“As we are replacing the current version, we need all current users to download the new mLink app in order to keep using this convenient payment option. But we’re also encouraging new customers to take advantage of mLink, download the app and give it a try.
“mLink mobile tickets, alongside other cashless travel options like contactless payments on-bus, smartcards and iLink, are a great way to help speed up boarding times while offering good value, flexibility and convenience”, William concluded.
Translink remain committed to providing accessible travel and continue to offer other prepaid ticketing channels such as smartcards, online ticketing, and Ticket Vending Machines, while still accepting cash at ticket offices, on-train and on-bus.
The mLink FREE mobile ticketing app is available to download on iOS and Android devices and can be used to purchase key ticket types for all Metro services, all NI Railways services and Ulsterbus and Goldliner services to/from main stations across the Translink network including local Adult and Child journeys, yLink and 24+ student railcard. To avail of yLink or 24+ Student Railcard mLink tickets passengers need to register the appropriate valid card within the mLink app.
In addition, customers can access real-time travel information, a journey planner, and timetables with the company’s Translink NI app.
